My name is Sean Boru and I am an Actor/Writer/Comic and Live Entertainer. I have written, narrated, produced and directed a film about my 3 cancer experiences. I was diagnosed with Lymphatic Cancer or Non-Hodgkins Disease in 1998, since then I have had another 2 bouts in the form of a tumour behind my eye in 2001. In 2002 I upgraded to Hodgkins Disease, which is a more aggressive form of this cancer, which effects the immune system. Basically what happens is that good cells called lymph nodes become bad cells and start to group together to form tumours, as a group they attack the body instead of protecting it; which is their natural function. In April the new book is being launched with all the royalties going to provide FREE copies of my film to all cancer patients in the U.K. and Ireland. Jimmy White has done the foreword and will be at the launch in Epsom on April 7th.
The trouble with Hodgkins Lymphoma, is that these Tumours can still travel around the lymph system attacking the good cells as they go, Non-Hodgkins is the lower grade form of this killer disease. I was treated with Radiotherapy for the first 2 bouts, but the 3rd proved to be a more aggressive and fast growing form of tumour. This time I was treated with chemotherapy by intravenous injection.
I wanted to stay focused and positive, so I raised enough money to be able to film the different treatments, side effects, low and high moments, and add some animation to explain what actually happens in the body when tumours are formed ,and how treatments work. In 2006 I released the film to help patients and their loved ones to understand, in simple layman terms and visually on film ,what cancer is all about. I also explained what the preparation and treatments really mean. I dispel some very bad myths about cancer, giving some hope to help you to understand the real meaning of cancer, and it`s treatments, in a very modern and scientific age.
The DVD film also focuses on the side effects, dietary tips and just as importantly, financial support and benefits available to anyone with cancer. There is information available now by clicking onto the links on the left. I want to give you information that is not normally available and which comes from the heart, I hope I achieve that. I personally have had a lot of support from family and friends, and from some very famous people as well ,which is why I have include some photos of me with stars who have genuinely given me their support, prayers and love during my years of dealing with cancer.......
